June 3, 2026 Srinagar: In a significant public health initiative, the Jammu and Kashmir government has announced plans to establish dedicated rehabilitation centers for drug addiction treatment. This comes as part of a broader effort to combat the rising tide of substance abuse in the valley. Health officials stated that these centers will provide not only medical care, but also counseling and vocational training to ensure holistic recovery.

Dr. Farida Bano, a leading public health expert, noted, “We are seeing a worrying trend of youth succumbing to drug dependency. These centers will be a lifeline for many families.” The government aims to complete the first center by early next year in Srinagar, followed by additional centers in Anantnag and Baramulla.
