India Summons US Diplomat Over Tanker Attack Near Oman

New Delhi, June 10: India has summoned the United States Chargé d’Affaires, Jason Meeks, to lodge a strong protest following an attack on the commercial tanker Settebello in the Gulf of Oman, which left three Indian crew members missing.

According to reports, 21 of the 24 Indian sailors aboard the vessel were rescued, while search operations for the remaining three are underway in coordination with Omani authorities and the Indian Embassy.

The Ministry of External Affairs condemned the targeting of commercial shipping, describing it as deeply concerning and linked to the escalating tensions in the region. India emphasized the need to protect civilian infrastructure and ensure free and uninterrupted navigation through international waterways in accordance with international law.

New Delhi also called for an immediate de escalation of tensions and urged all parties to pursue a diplomatic solution to restore peace and stability in West Asia.

The incident comes just days after another vessel carrying Indian crew members was reportedly struck in the region, highlighting growing risks to commercial maritime traffic amid rising US Iran tensions.
