Director Agriculture Kashmir Sartaj Ahmad Shah on Sunday chaired a comprehensive review meeting at the Directorate Hall, Lal Mandi, Srinagar, to assess preparedness and finalise the implementation strategy for the Annual Action Plan (AAP) 2026-27 across the Kashmir division. The meeting was attended by Joint Director Agriculture Inputs and other senior departmental officers, who held detailed deliberations on district-wise targets, developmental priorities and implementation frameworks under various ongoing agricultural schemes.

Shah directed officers to strengthen field-level monitoring, enhance coordination with stakeholders and ensure that both physical and financial targets are achieved within the timelines set under the Annual Action Plan. He made clear that the benefits of government schemes must reach farmers in a timely and effective manner, with no scope for delays or procedural bottlenecks at the district level.

The director underscored the importance of promoting modern farming practices as a core component of the AAP’s implementation strategy, emphasising crop diversification, farm mechanisation, efficient resource utilisation and farmer capacity building as key pillars for achieving sustainable and inclusive agricultural growth in the region. He also reviewed departmental preparedness for key agricultural interventions planned during upcoming cropping seasons, ensuring that field staff and resources are positioned ahead of time.

Shah called for a committed, result-oriented approach from all officers, stressing that the objectives of the Annual Action Plan must be met with consistency and a focus on measurable outcomes. He emphasised that enhancing agricultural productivity and improving farmers’ welfare across the Kashmir division requires not just planning but rigorous on-ground execution backed by regular evaluation.

Agriculture remains the backbone of Kashmir’s rural economy, with a majority of households in the valley directly or indirectly dependent on farming, horticulture and allied activities. The AAP serves as the operational roadmap for channelling central and state funds into farming communities, and the timely, accountable implementation of its programmes is critical to the long-term economic security of rural J&K.

The meeting concluded with firm directions for effective monitoring, timely programme execution and regular departmental evaluation across all districts of the Kashmir division.
