Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather has expressed deep grief over a devastating fire that gutted portions of Darul Uloom Pakherpora, a prominent Islamic seminary in the Budgam district.

Conveying his sympathies to the Intizamiya Committee overseeing the institution, the Speaker said he was relieved to learn that all students had been safely evacuated and that there were no casualties in the incident. The fire, which spread through sections of the complex, caused significant damage to property and raised concerns about the state of fire safety infrastructure at the institution.

Rather called upon the district administration to immediately conduct a thorough assessment of the damage caused by the fire and directed the concerned authorities to extend prompt relief and all possible assistance to those affected. He said the administration must act swiftly to ensure that students and staff face minimal disruption and are able to return to a normal environment at the earliest.

The Speaker prayed for everyone’s well-being and expressed hope for a swift restoration of normalcy at the institution. Darul Uloom Pakherpora is considered one of the important religious educational institutions in the Kashmir Valley, and the fire has prompted wide concern among religious and civil society circles in the region.

Fire incidents at madrasas and educational institutions in Kashmir have highlighted recurring concerns about structural safety, fire prevention equipment, and emergency preparedness. Officials have been urged to ensure that institutions of this nature are subjected to regular safety inspections and are equipped with adequate firefighting measures.
