New Delhi, July 3: The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has called for immediate accountability and comprehensive reforms following the recent theft and alleged desecration at the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi temple in Ayodhya, describing the incident as a matter of profound concern for millions of devotees across the country.
In a statement issued on Friday, RSS Sarkaryavah (General Secretary) Dattatreya Hosabale said the security lapse at the Ram Mandir, regarded as one of Hinduism’s holiest shrines, had deeply pained the Hindu community and demanded an uncompromising institutional response.
Calling the temple a symbol of centuries of faith, sacrifice and national aspiration, Hosabale urged the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust and the Uttar Pradesh government to treat the incident as an exceptional matter requiring urgent corrective action rather than a routine administrative lapse.
The RSS welcomed the ongoing probe by the Uttar Pradesh government’s Special Investigation Team (SIT) and stressed that those responsible should face stringent legal action. It also sought an immediate review of the temple’s security architecture, administrative procedures and financial oversight mechanisms to prevent any recurrence.
The statement further emphasized the need to strengthen transparency and institutional integrity in the temple’s management, saying such measures were essential to preserving the trust and faith of millions of devotees.
Addressing the wider political and social discourse surrounding the incident, Hosabale appealed for calm and restraint while cautioning against attempts to exploit the episode for ideological or political purposes.
“We appeal to the entire Hindu society to maintain patience and vigilance during this difficult period and not allow anti-Hindu or anti-national elements to misuse this unfortunate incident to spread misleading narratives,” the statement said.
Despite expressing serious concern over the breach, the RSS voiced confidence that decisive administrative reforms and stronger security measures would restore public confidence and reinforce the sanctity of the Ram Mandir.
The statement is being viewed as one of the strongest responses from the Sangh leadership since the incident, underscoring its expectation that the administration of the country’s most prominent Hindu shrine should meet the highest standards of security, transparency and accountability.
