PDP president and former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on Saturday pressed the Jammu and Kashmir government to announce a comprehensive rehabilitation package for families hit by recent flash floods in Thathri, Doda, alongside a long-term disaster mitigation plan for the wider Chenab Valley. In a statement, she flagged the toll on homes, shops, vehicles and public infrastructure, and called for a scientific damage assessment followed by adequate compensation for residential and commercial property, agricultural land and other private losses. She also sought targeted financial relief for traders and small business owners whose livelihoods took a direct hit. Beyond immediate compensation, Mufti pushed for a broader resilience blueprint for the Chenab region — flood protection works, river training, retaining walls, scientific slope stabilisation, better drainage and modern early-warning systems for vulnerable pockets. Her intervention adds political weight to a chorus of local demands from the flood-hit belt, where residents and elected representatives have been pressing the administration to move from emergency rescue to sustained rebuilding.
