Minister for School Education, Higher Education, Health and Medical Education, and Social Welfare, Sakina Itoo, on Thursday felicitated Jammu and Kashmir students who qualified the JEE Advanced examination during a ceremony held at the Civil Secretariat in Srinagar, hailing their success as a reflection of growing academic excellence in the region.
Congratulating the achievers personally, the minister described their performance as a matter of pride for the entire Union Territory, noting that such results underscore the rising quality of education and the determination of Kashmir’s youth to compete at the national level. She encouraged the students to remain focused and continue striving for excellence as they progress toward some of the country’s most prestigious engineering institutions.
The event also became a platform for broader engagement, as a delegation from the Jammu and Kashmir General Line Teachers Forum, led by Gower Ahmed Bhat, met with the minister to press their case for the introduction of incentive schemes for National Awardee teachers, modelled on similar programmes already in place in other parts of the country. The minister assured the delegation that their long-standing demand would be examined sympathetically and addressed at the earliest opportunity, acknowledging the contribution of award-winning educators to the state’s teaching ecosystem.
The teachers’ delegation, in turn, appreciated the minister’s continuing efforts to strengthen the education sector and improve public welfare across Jammu and Kashmir, signalling a constructive tone in the exchange despite the pending nature of their demand.
Beyond the felicitation and the teachers’ meeting, several other public delegations and individuals from different parts of the Union Territory also called on the minister during the day, raising a range of developmental issues and public concerns. In many instances, she issued on-the-spot directions to concerned officials and assured time-bound redressal of the grievances raised, reflecting an administrative style geared toward direct public engagement.
Reaffirming her department’s commitment to transparent and responsive governance, the minister said the welfare of students, teachers and the wider public would remain a top priority, with sustained efforts continuing to strengthen education, health and social welfare services throughout Jammu and Kashmir in the months ahead.
