Minister for Health, Medical Education, School Education and Social Welfare, Sakina Ittoo, on Tuesday emphasised the need for stronger collaboration between the government and private educational institutions to build a future-ready education ecosystem in Jammu and Kashmir. She said meaningful partnerships are essential to equip students with the knowledge, skills and adaptability required in a rapidly evolving global environment.
Speaking at an interaction organised by Cambridge International Education and Foundation World School in Srinagar, attended by trainers, educators and academic leaders, the Minister stressed that delivering quality education requires the combined efforts of the government, private institutions, teachers, parents and the wider community.
Acknowledging the contribution of reputed private schools, Ittoo said institutions such as Foundation World School have complemented the government’s efforts by promoting academic excellence, improving learning outcomes and nurturing young talent across the Union Territory. She observed that education must extend beyond academic achievement to develop responsible, innovative and compassionate citizens capable of contributing positively to society.
Describing teachers as the true architects of the nation, the Minister urged educators to inspire curiosity, creativity, critical thinking and ethical leadership among students, noting that their influence extends well beyond classroom learning.
Raising concern over the growing menace of drug addiction among youth, Ittoo called on schools and colleges to play a proactive role in prevention through awareness campaigns, counselling services and the promotion of healthy lifestyles. She described educational institutions as the first line of defence in safeguarding young people from substance abuse.
The Minister also highlighted the importance of skill development and vocational education, encouraging institutions to expose students to emerging opportunities in sectors such as horticulture, agriculture, tourism, hospitality and allied industries. She said Jammu and Kashmir’s vast potential in these fields can create employment and entrepreneurship opportunities for the younger generation.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment to educational reforms, Ittoo said the administration remains focused on building an inclusive, innovative and resilient education system capable of meeting the aspirations of students and the demands of the modern economy.
Representatives of Cambridge International Education and Foundation World School reaffirmed their commitment to supporting educational transformation in Jammu and Kashmir through globally recognised learning frameworks, professional teacher development and competency-based education aimed at preparing students for higher education, careers and responsible citizenship.
