Kishtwar, August 11: Around 15,000 people participated in a mega Tiranga Rally at the district headquarters of Kishtwar on Monday, marking a strong display of patriotism and national unity under the nationwide Har Ghar Tiranga campaign and the third phase of the Vande Mataram centenary celebrations.
The rally was also organised as a prelude to the celebrations of the 80th Independence Day and witnessed enthusiastic participation from people across different sections of society.
MLA Kishtwar Shagun Parihar and Deputy Commissioner Pankaj Kumar Sharma led the mega rally, which brought together citizens, students, teachers, government employees, civil and police administration officials, members of civil society and local residents.
The rally commenced from Dak Bungalow Chowk and passed through Kuleed Chowk before culminating at the sprawling Chowgan Grounds. Participants marched together carrying the National Flag and raised patriotic slogans including “Har Ghar Tiranga”, “Bharat Mata Ki Jai”, “Hindustan Zindabad” and “Vande Mataram”.
The large public participation turned the rally into a major civic event, with people from different age groups joining the march and expressing their commitment to national unity and the values associated with Independence.
Addressing the gathering at Chowgan Ground, Deputy Commissioner Pankaj Kumar Sharma highlighted the importance of such public engagements in strengthening national unity, patriotism and social harmony. He particularly emphasised the role of young people in carrying forward the ideals and values of the freedom struggle.
The Deputy Commissioner paid tribute to freedom fighters and martyrs who made supreme sacrifices for the country’s independence. He also called upon citizens to uphold the principles of freedom, democracy, unity and national integrity.
A major attraction of the event was the formation of a human map of India by children. The formation was captured through drone imagery, providing a visual representation of national unity and collective participation.
The participation of children, women, youth and senior citizens added to the patriotic atmosphere of the event. The presence of students and young participants also highlighted the role of the younger generation in connecting contemporary celebrations with the sacrifices and contributions of the freedom movement.
Officials said the rally reflected the strong spirit of national pride among the people of Kishtwar and provided an opportunity for citizens to come together under the national flag.
Similar Tiranga Rallies were also organised simultaneously at sub-divisional and tehsil headquarters across Kishtwar district as part of the broader celebrations.
The events form part of efforts to promote the message of national unity and encourage wider public participation in the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign and Vande Mataram centenary celebrations. With Independence Day approaching, the large-scale participation in Kishtwar added momentum to the celebrations and highlighted the community’s collective expression of patriotism.
