Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Thursday laid the foundation stone of Amriteshwar Sarovar at Dharpur, Sunderbani, in Rajouri district, under the Jan Sanchay Jan Bhagidari initiative, a scheme built around pooling community savings and participation for local development projects.
Before addressing the gathering, the Lieutenant Governor paid obeisance at the Shri Amriteshwar Shiv Temple, offering prayers for the peace, prosperity and well-being of the people. He commended the local community for its efforts in developing the sacred site, framing the Sarovar project as an example of what sustained community involvement can achieve when paired with administrative support.
Addressing the gathering, Sinha stressed the importance of collective efforts to eliminate terrorism, drug abuse and corruption, three challenges he has repeatedly flagged in public addresses across Jammu and Kashmir as threats to the region’s social fabric and development trajectory. He urged residents to remain vigilant against anti-national elements, to report suspicious activity to the authorities, and to socially isolate terror sympathisers within their communities, a call that echoes the administration’s broader civic-vigilance messaging in border and sensitive districts like Rajouri.
The Lieutenant Governor assured the gathering that the administration would make sincere efforts to address public grievances and local infrastructure needs, a commitment that carries particular weight in Sunderbani, where residents have periodically raised concerns about the pace of development compared to more urbanised parts of the district.
The Amriteshwar Sarovar project itself reflects a broader pattern in the LG’s public engagements, combining religious and cultural site development with messaging on security and civic responsibility, an approach officials say is intended to reinforce both community pride and vigilance in equal measure.
