NIT Srinagar Hosts MY Bharat Youth Sports Event

The National Institute of Technology Srinagar, in collaboration with MY Bharat (Mera Yuva Bharat), organised a sports and youth empowerment event aimed at promoting physical fitness, discipline, sportsmanship and a healthy lifestyle among students, bringing together students, faculty members, institutional officials and sports personalities to highlight the role of sports in nation-building.

The event was attended by NIT Srinagar Director Prof. Anurag Misra, Registrar Prof. Atikur Rehman, DR Administration Faisal Irshad Ganai, DR Accounts Naziya Nazir, NSS Coordinator Dr Parmod Kumar Yadav, ANO NCC Dr Nitika Kundan and MY Bharat State Coordinator for Jammu and Kashmir Gopal Namde, along with faculty members including Dr H.S. Pali, Dr Vijay Kumar, Dr Mukund Sharma, Dr Manoj Kumar and Dr Ashok Kumar.

A major highlight of the programme was a live virtual interaction with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who addressed youth across the country and stressed the importance of sports in developing discipline, focus and a balanced lifestyle, noting that participation in sports can help young people stay focused on their goals amid modern-day distractions. Director Prof. Anurag Misra said sports form an important component of the holistic development of students, helping them build discipline, teamwork, confidence and resilience, while Registrar Prof. Atikur Rehman said such programmes give students an opportunity to engage beyond academics and appreciated the collaboration with MY Bharat.

Celebrated martial artist Aqsa Gulzar, who hails from Nowshera in Srinagar, attended as Chief Guest. Gulzar, who began training in Pencak Silat at the age of 12 and has represented India at national and international platforms, has won gold at the 8th Asian Senior Pencak Silat Championship in Bukhara, Uzbekistan, gold at the 37th National Games in Goa, and bronze at the 19th World Pencak Silat Championship in Malaysia. During an interactive session, she shared her sporting journey with students, speaking about perseverance, dedication and mental resilience.

The programme also featured an online quiz competition conducted through the MY Bharat portal to test student awareness, followed by a unified oath against drug abuse and in support of a healthy sports culture. The event concluded with a felicitation ceremony honouring the dignitaries and speakers, along with certificates presented to student participants and volunteers for their active involvement.
