Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Sunday met several individuals and deputations at Raabita in Srinagar, holding discussions that touched on sustainable mountain development, tourism promotion and sports achievements from across Jammu and Kashmir. The meetings brought together a range of stakeholders spanning academia, policy and sport, reflecting the diverse issues taken up during the Chief Minister’s public interaction.
A delegation from the Integrated Mountain Initiative, comprising its President Dr. Ramesh Negi, LEAD Strategist Dr. Rajan Kumar Kotru, and SKUAST-K Vice Chancellor Prof. Nazir Ahmad Ganai, called on the Chief Minister to discuss strategies for promoting sustainable mountain development across Jammu and Kashmir. The delegation’s engagement underscores growing institutional focus on balancing development with ecological preservation in the region’s mountainous terrain, an issue that has drawn renewed attention following recent flood events in the wider Himalayan belt.
Amitash Ojha, Associate Professor of Cognitive Science at IIT Jammu, also met the Chief Minister and briefed him on a proposed nudge based initiative aimed at tourism development in Jammu and Kashmir. The initiative seeks to apply behavioural insights to encourage sustainable tourism practices, enhance the overall visitor experience, and support local tourism stakeholders through subtle, evidence based interventions rather than conventional regulatory approaches. The proposal reflects a growing interest in applying behavioural science methods to policy areas such as tourism management in the region.
The Chief Minister also met J&K fencer Vishal Thapar, who has been selected to represent India at the 20th Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, scheduled to be held from September 19 to October 4, 2026. The meeting served to recognise Thapar’s achievement in earning national selection, adding to the growing list of Jammu and Kashmir athletes securing places on India’s contingent for the upcoming Games.
The series of meetings at Raabita reflects the Chief Minister’s continued practice of engaging directly with individuals and delegations on issues ranging from environmental policy and academic research to sporting achievement, providing a platform for stakeholders across sectors to raise concerns and share proposals directly with the administration.
