The Director General, CRPF, visited the 118 Battalion CRPF camp at Gund in Ganderbal on Sunday to review security arrangements in the area, an inspection that came in the immediate aftermath of this year’s Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra and served as an occasion to formally recognise the force’s contribution to the pilgrimage’s safe conduct.
During the visit, the DG commended the pivotal role played by CRPF personnel in ensuring the smooth and secure conduct of the Yatra, specifically acknowledging the dedication, vigilance and professional commitment displayed by troops tasked with safeguarding pilgrims through what remains one of the most security intensive religious gatherings conducted anywhere in the Union Territory each year. In a facilitation ceremony held during the visit, Director General’s Discs and Commendation Certificates were conferred upon deserving CRPF personnel in recognition of their dedication, operational excellence and performance of duties through the course of this year’s pilgrimage.
As part of the programme, the DG also held a Sainik Sammelan with the troops stationed at Gund, using the interaction to hear directly from jawans and officers about the concerns and difficulties they face in the course of their deployment. He engaged with personnel on a range of welfare and operational issues, offering practical suggestions aimed at strengthening the operational capabilities and overall effectiveness of CRPF units deployed across Jammu and Kashmir, an exercise that reflects the force’s continuing emphasis on maintaining direct channels of communication between senior leadership and ground level personnel.
The DG also credited the sustained efforts of CRPF troops, working alongside other security forces, for what he described as a considerable decline in terrorist activity across Jammu and Kashmir, framing the Gund visit as part of a broader continuum of security operations that extend well beyond the annual Yatra period into year round counter terrorism and area domination duties across the region.
The visit underscored the CRPF’s continued focus on operational readiness, personnel welfare and the maintenance of high professional standards among its deployed units. The DG exhorted personnel to remain mission ready, vigilant and steadfast in their commitment to national security, while continuing to discharge their duties with discipline and operational excellence.
The Director General was accompanied during the visit by Rajesh Kumar, Special DG, J&K Zone, Gyanendra Kumar Verma, IG Operations Directorate, Vineet Brijlal, IG Kashmir Operations Sector, and Pawan Kumar Sharma, IG Srinagar Sector CRPF, along with other senior officers of the force, underlining the scale of command level attention devoted to the visit.
