Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Anshul Garg, on Tuesday chaired a high-level meeting to review and resolve outstanding issues related to the ambitious Medicity project in Srinagar, underscoring the administration’s push to fast-track the flagship healthcare infrastructure initiative.
The meeting brought together Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Akshay Labroo, along with senior officers from the Srinagar Development Authority (SDA), the Roads & Building (R&B) Department, the State Industrial Development Corporation (SIDCO), and the Industries & Commerce Department. Project Coordinator Sajad Nazir Shah also attended and briefed the chair on the status of the project.
Central to the discussions was the demarcation of land earmarked for the Medicity project, a matter that has assumed added significance given its proximity to the upcoming Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh High Court complex. Officials deliberated extensively on the 15 metre Right of Way, the buffer zone separating the two developments, with the Divisional Commissioner emphasising that clarity on boundaries is essential before construction activity can proceed unhindered.
Taking note of concerns flagged by the departments as well as the executing agency, the Divisional Commissioner directed officials to carry out a joint inspection of the site so that the demarcation dispute could be settled on the ground rather than in files. He further instructed that revenue officers from the concerned departments be roped into the exercise, insisting that the land be marked out strictly in line with the plan approved in 2021, leaving no room for ambiguity or future disputes over jurisdiction.
Anshul Garg also stressed the need to secure the requisite Right of Way for the Medicity project, noting that unresolved access and boundary issues have historically stalled major infrastructure works in the Valley, and that timely intervention now would spare the project such delays later. He asked the departments to work in close coordination rather than in silos, so that the project timeline is not compromised by administrative bottlenecks.
DC Srinagar Akshay Labroo, for his part, assured the meeting of full support from the district administration in facilitating an early resolution of the demarcation issue, indicating that his office would extend whatever assistance was required to keep the project on track.
Earlier in the meeting, the project coordinator apprised the chair of the approved Medicity plan and the associated Right of Way provisions, giving officials a clear picture of the technical and regulatory framework guiding the project going forward. The Medicity project is envisioned as a major healthcare and medical education hub for Kashmir, and its smooth execution is being closely watched by both the administration and the public given the scale of investment and the anticipated impact on the region’s health infrastructure.
