Srinagar: The Beopar Mandal Maharaj Gunj has welcomed the operationalisation of the Urban Primary Health Centre (UPHC) Maharaj Gunj from its newly constructed building, describing it as a significant step towards improving healthcare facilities in the historic Downtown area.

The Mandal said the health centre has a long medical legacy dating back to the era of Maharaja Ranbir Singh and is among the oldest healthcare institutions in Srinagar. However, its old building was declared unsafe following the 2005 earthquake, forcing the centre to function for years from makeshift sheds at Maharaj Gunj Municipal Park.

The Beopar Mandal said it had consistently pursued the matter with the concerned authorities and worked towards securing a proper healthcare facility for the area.

While welcoming the new beginning, the Mandal urged authorities to equip the centre with modern medical infrastructure, diagnostic services, adequate equipment, medicines and other essential facilities to meet the healthcare needs of the large population it serves.

It also appealed to doctors, nurses, paramedical staff and other healthcare workers to treat patients with compassion, patience and respect, expressing hope that the new facility would emerge as a centre of quality healthcare and humanitarian service.

The Primary Health Centre which is headquartering the whole Zone and has some 23 sub centers under its jurisdiction was inaugurated a couple of days ago by the Minister of Health and Medical Education Ms Sakina Itoo.
