SRINAGAR: In a major push towards smart and citizen-friendly governance, the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) has taken waste bin booking online, sparing residents the need to visit municipal offices for the service.
SMC Commissioner Faz Lul Haseeb, accompanied by Joint Commissioner SMC Suhail Ul Islam, today launched the Online Waste Bin Booking Service, a digital initiative designed to make waste-bin requests faster, simpler and more accessible for people across Srinagar.
Under the new system, residents can submit their waste-bin requirements online along with their location and contact details, eliminating the need for physical visits to SMC offices. The digital platform will also create a structured record of requests, allowing officials to track applications, monitor their status and improve deployment of field staff and resources.
Calling the initiative a significant step towards technology-driven civic governance, Commissioner Faz Lul Haseeb said SMC was focused on bringing essential municipal services directly to citizens.
“Our focus is to bring municipal services closer to citizens through technology,” the Commissioner said, adding that the new facility would enable residents to access civic services conveniently while helping SMC respond in a more efficient, transparent and accountable manner.
The Commissioner directed concerned officers and field functionaries to ensure the timely and effective implementation of the service. He also stressed the importance of creating wider public awareness so that more residents can benefit from the digital facility.
