Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University in Katra organised the valedictory ceremony of its two-week Student Induction Programme 2026 at the Matrika Auditorium, marking the successful culmination of an induction journey designed to help newly admitted undergraduate students settle into university life.
The programme was conceived to familiarise incoming students with the academic environment, campus culture, institutional values and the range of opportunities available at SMVDU. It was planned and conducted by a dedicated team of faculty members under the chairmanship of Prof. Balbir Singh, Dean Academic Affairs and Convener of the induction programme, with a focus on academic orientation, teamwork, creativity, confidence, interpersonal development and holistic growth among first-year students.
The valedictory ceremony brought together newly admitted students, Deans, Heads of Schools, faculty members, organising committee members and distinguished guests. Proceedings opened with the National Song followed by the National Anthem and a ceremonial welcome to the dignitaries, and potted plants were presented to the Chief Guest and Guest of Honour as a symbol of growth, sustainability and new beginnings.
Dr. Shafaq Rasool, Associate Dean of Academic Affairs for non-engineering disciplines and Coordinator of the induction programme, delivered the welcome address. Prof. Balbir Singh presented an overview of the two-week schedule, highlighting the range of activities and learning experiences organised for the incoming batch, while students from different disciplines shared their own experiences and reflections, expressing appreciation for the diverse activities and interactions offered through the induction period.
Guest of Honour Taranvir Singh, Managing Director of TVS Filters, delivered an address on becoming a successful entrepreneur, encouraging students to develop an innovative and entrepreneurial mindset, embrace challenges, learn continuously and work toward meaningful solutions through knowledge, creativity and perseverance. Certificates were presented to student volunteers, organising committee members and invited speakers in recognition of their contributions to the programme’s successful conduct.
The Vice-Chancellor, as Chief Guest, delivered the valedictory address, underscoring the importance of holistic education, discipline, innovation, ethical values and active participation in university life, and encouraged students to make full use of the academic, research, innovation, entrepreneurship and extracurricular opportunities available at SMVDU. The ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Pooja Sharma, Organising Secretary of the programme, followed by a group photograph of the dignitaries and faculty.
