The Jammu and Kashmir administration has fixed specific deadlines for completing the remaining Prime Minister’s Package flats and for handing over possession to eligible employees, even as a Rs 82.45 crore renovation of migrant camp blocks in Jammu is set to begin shortly, according to decisions taken at a high-level review meeting held here on Tuesday.
The meeting, held under the joint chairmanship of Anil Kumar Singh, Additional Chief Secretary of the Public Works (Roads and Buildings) Department, and Chandraker Bharti, Principal Secretary of the Department of Disaster Management, Relief, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction, brought together senior officers from across the administration to assess progress on ongoing and upcoming projects under the department’s mandate. Those present included the Relief and Rehabilitation Commissioner (Migrants), Chief Engineers of PW(R&B) for North, Central and South Kashmir, the Chief Engineer of Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited, the Chief Engineer of PW(R&B) Jammu, and senior officials from the Public Works Department, DMRR&R, Jal Shakti Department and the Divisional Administration of Kashmir.
Officials informed the meeting that of the 6,000 flats approved for Prime Minister’s Package employees across 20 locations in the Kashmir Valley, 5,176 have already been completed, with allied works including lift installation, internal roads, drainage and community halls nearing completion at most sites. Specific deadlines were fixed for finishing the balance works, and directions were issued to hand over possession of completed flats to eligible employees in a phased manner, in line with allotments already made under existing government norms.
On the renovation of migrant camp blocks in Jammu, officials said tender formalities for the Rs 82.45 crore project have been completed and construction work is expected to begin shortly. Directions were also issued for finalising a detailed project to upgrade infrastructure in migrant schools, health dispensaries, internal roads and parks across the camps, reflecting an effort to extend improvements beyond housing alone.
The meeting also reviewed construction of the PoJK Bhawan at Suketar, with officials emphasising the need to complete the project in all respects within the current financial year. The Chief Engineer of PW(R&B) Jammu informed the gathering that a detailed project report for additional flats for Kashmiri migrants at Purkhoo is being finalised, while the Multipurpose Community Hall at Jagti, built at an estimated cost of Rs 6.50 crore, has been completed. Tender formalities are also in progress for new projects worth approximately Rs 20 crore at migrant camps in Purkhoo, Nagrota, Muthi and Jagti during the current financial year.
Officials said detailed project reports are additionally being prepared for a range of initiatives proposed for the next financial year, including e-learning centres, digital libraries and reading rooms, career counselling and guidance centres, skill development and vocational training centres, entrepreneurship facilitation centres, sports infrastructure, and solar power and water conservation projects across the migrant camps.
