Director School Education Kashmir Nasir Ahmad Wani inaugurated an upgraded eco club at Bilalia Educational Institute (BEI), Lal Bazar Srinagar, during the institute’s Annual Function 2026, held under the theme “Education, Character and Celebration of Nature,” with the programme opening with a tree plantation drive in which guests planted saplings across the campus.
Students of BEI presented cultural performances, speeches and educational presentations highlighting the importance of education, character building and environmental responsibility. The event drew a wide range of dignitaries, including SSP City Traffic Srinagar Ejaz Ahmad Butt, Chief Education Officer Srinagar Ghulam Mohiuddin, former JKBOSE Secretary Farooq Peer, Dr Farooq Wasil of Think Site Services Dubai, Dr Anwar Bari of Al Amina Private School Sharjah, education expert Dr Haleema Sadia, Education Department media advisor Fayaz Ahmad Fayaz, BEI management committee members Shafqat Jahan and Sheikh Abdul Rashid, ICDS officer Tasneem Akhtar and psychiatrist Dr Mushtaq Marghoob.
Speaking on the occasion, Director Nasir Ahmad Wani stressed the importance of protecting the natural environment and praised the environmental initiatives led by BEI Chairman Manzoor Ahmad Wangnoo. He said nature is an integral part of life and that environmental awareness must become an essential component of education, adding that efforts toward tree plantation and environmental protection help children understand that safeguarding nature is both a social responsibility and central to building a healthy, sustainable future.
SSP City Traffic Ejaz Ahmad Butt underlined the role schools play in shaping disciplined and responsible citizens, saying that respect for traffic rules and consideration for others must be instilled from an early age. Former JKBOSE Secretary Farooq Peer said genuine education extends beyond academic results to knowledge, confidence, character and independent thinking paired with a positive role in society. Dr Farooq Wasil spoke on the need for future ready education, stressing creativity, communication, critical thinking and adaptability in a fast changing, technology driven world, while Dr Anwar Bari called for linking classroom learning to practical life through skills, confidence and global awareness. Dr Haleema Sadia highlighted the importance of nurturing every child’s unique potential across creativity, empathy and emotional growth, not academic ability alone.
BEI Chairman Manzoor Ahmad Wangnoo described the annual function as a celebration of what the institute’s children are learning and the values they carry forward, saying BEI’s education philosophy centres on knowledge, character and responsibility toward nature and society. Principal Nisar Ahmad thanked the chief guests, dignitaries, parents, students and staff for making the event a memorable success.
