Inspector General of Police Kashmir, Sujit Kumar, chaired a security review cum traffic management meeting with multiple stakeholders at PCR Kashmir, focusing on decongesting traffic choking points across Srinagar city while reinforcing the existing security grid. The meeting was attended by DIG Traffic Jammu, DIG CKR Srinagar, DIG Traffic Kashmir, Deputy Inspectors General of CRPF North and South Srinagar, SSP PCR Kashmir, SSP Traffic City Srinagar, SSP Srinagar, all zonal SsP of Srinagar city and several other senior officers.
Officers briefed the IGP on the prevailing security scenario in their respective areas and shared inputs to identify gaps and strengthen traffic management and security arrangements. The existing city security grid and personnel deployment were reviewed, with emphasis on realigning naka points wherever required to enhance coverage while easing traffic congestion, and the meeting focused on ensuring smooth vehicular flow without compromising security.
IGP Kashmir directed the implementation of coordinated security arrangements across intra zone, inter zone, inter district and peripheral areas, and ordered that check posts at Srinagar city’s entry and exit points be reinforced with seamless coordination and real time information sharing between Traffic Police, District Police and naka points to enable swift response. He also stressed leveraging technology to strengthen traffic regulation, surveillance and coordination, concluding the meeting by reiterating the importance of continuous review and professional execution of security measures with public safety and minimal commuter inconvenience as the priority.
In a separate initiative, police in Baramulla organised an educational exposure visit for students of classes 6th to 8th of the Government Girls Middle School, Boniyar, at Police Station Boniyar as part of their Social Science project work. The students toured the Munshiyat and record section, the Kot, the lock up area and the CCTNS facility, gaining practical insight into police records, case property management, custody procedures and technology driven policing.
A special interactive session was also held on women and child protection, cyber safety and responsible citizenship, sensitising students about the Women Help Desk, victim sensitive policing and the procedural safeguards available to women and children. The visit was aimed at familiarising young students with the functioning of a police station and strengthening trust and confidence between the force and the community it serves.
