New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi presented Swiss President Guy Parmelin with special gifts showcasing India’s rich craftsmanship and culinary heritage, including a hand-carved Kashmiri walnut wood wall panel.
Modi also gifted Parmelin three award-winning Indian cheeses—Gulmarg, Konark and Yeoor. Gulmarg won a Super Gold award at the 2026 Mundial do Queijo do Brasil, while Konark won Gold at the 2023 World Cheese Awards in Norway and Silver in Switzerland in 2025.
The intricately carved Kashmiri walnut wood panel depicts traditional landscapes, flora, human figures, horses, carriages and village life, highlighting Kashmir’s centuries-old woodcarving tradition and the skills of its artisans.
Modi also presented Caroline Parmelin, wife of the Swiss President, with a traditional Kutchi shawl placed in a handcrafted Sadeli box, showcasing Gujarat’s distinctive weaving and decorative craftsmanship.
