Experts Call for Climate-Resilient, Inclusive Housing at IEI-JKSC Event

Srinagar, October 5: The Institution of Engineers (India), Jammu & Kashmir State Centre (IEI-JKSC), organised a Technical Talk and Panel Discussion on World Habitat Day–2026 on the theme “Adequate Housing for All.” The programme brought together engineers, former administrators, academicians, professionals and civil society representatives to discuss affordable, safe, sustainable and resilient housing.

The programme was led by Er. Ferdous Ahad Bhat, FIE, Chairman, IEI-JKSC. Er. Syed Raza Shah Madni, Former Secretary Technical (PHE), was the Chief Guest, while Er. Farooq Ahmad Wani, FIE, Er. Naseer Ahmad Kakroo, FIE, and Dr. Touseef Bhatt, President, Rotary Club, Kashmir, were Guests of Honour.

The discussions covered affordable housing, housing security, climate- and disaster-resilient construction, energy efficiency, basic infrastructure, inclusive housing, innovative construction technologies and integrated urban planning. Participants stressed the need to move beyond merely creating housing units towards developing sustainable and liveable communities.

Er. Ferdous Ahad Bhat said adequate housing must include safety, affordability, essential infrastructure, accessibility, environmental responsibility and human dignity.

As an outcome, IEI-JKSC will prepare a comprehensive Policy Brief incorporating the recommendations and key deliberations of the programme and submit it to the concerned government authorities for consideration and policy-level action.
