North Kashmir’s First Women’s Sports Festival Begins in Sopore

Sopore, October 5: The first-ever North Kashmir Sports Festival, a three-day women’s sports event, began at Government Degree College (GDC) for Women, Sopore, bringing together around 900 athletes from 14 Degree Colleges and 5 Higher Secondary Schools.

The festival was inaugurated by Commissioner Secretary Higher Education Shri Ram Nivas Sharma (IAS) as Chief Guest. Shri Safqat Iqbal, Secretary Higher Education, and Shri Iftikhar Talib, SSP Sopore, attended as Guests of Honour, while Prof. Subeena Chiloo, Principal of the host college, played a key role in organising the event.
The inauguration began with an Izband ceremony by college students. The dignitaries felicitated Event Sponsor Mr. Ajaiz Ahmad Bhat of Lazzat Masala, Executive Engineer Javed Hussain Faktoo and Physical Directors from North Kashmir.

Prof. Subeena Chiloo delivered the welcome address, while the college’s Bi-Annual Newsletter and Annual Magazine ‘MEHAK’ were released.

Athletes will compete in seven sports disciplines during the three-day festival. Dr. Tanvir Ahmad Bhat, College Physical Director and Sports Coordinator, presented the event note, while Prof. Zubair Syed Masoodi conducted the proceedings and Prof. Pervez Ahmad Dar proposed the vote of thanks.

The festival was attended by principals of Degree Colleges and Higher Secondary Schools and members of the North Kashmir media fraternity. Dr. Aadil Mohi UD Din, Media Secretary, issued the statement.
