Farmers in Rajouri district have expressed satisfaction with the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme, saying the financial assistance has helped them meet essential agricultural expenses, including the purchase of seeds, fertilisers and other farming inputs.

Figures available for the district show that a total of Rs 123.57 crore has been disbursed to Rajouri’s farmers through 23 instalments since the launch of the scheme in February 2019, up to June 2026. In the latest instalment, released in June 2026, about Rs 8.68 crore was transferred directly into the bank accounts of 47,144 beneficiaries in the district.

Speaking about the scheme, Chief Agriculture Officer Rajouri, Rajesh Verma, said the assistance is credited directly into the bank accounts of eligible beneficiaries. He also stressed the importance of completing e-KYC formalities, advising farmers to make sure their e-KYC is in order so that they continue to receive the benefit without interruption. Officials say incomplete verification is among the most common reasons for delays in payment, and that farmers who have not yet completed the process should approach the agriculture department or a common service centre at the earliest.

Farmers in the district said that before the scheme was launched, many of them struggled to arrange money in time for seeds, fertilisers and other essential inputs, often having to depend on borrowing at the start of each sowing season. They said the assistance under PM-KISAN has helped them manage some of these expenses and continue their farming activities with greater financial support.

Rajouri is a largely hilly district in the Pir Panjal region, where holdings are generally small and fragmented and many families depend on farming and allied activities for their livelihood. In such conditions, a predictable cash transfer, even a modest one, can ease the pressure at critical points of the crop cycle. The direct transfer model also reduces the layers between the government and the beneficiary, which farmers say has made the system more transparent.

Expressing happiness over the benefits, farmers appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Central Government to continue the scheme so that farming families can keep receiving financial assistance and meet their agricultural needs in the future.

The scheme remains an important source of supplementary income for eligible farming families in Rajouri, where agriculture continues to be a key source of livelihood for many rural households, and its continuation is widely seen locally as a lifeline for small and marginal growers.
