PARAS Health Srinagar has announced that joint replacement surgeries will now be available to eligible patients under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY), a move aimed at making advanced orthopaedic care more accessible and affordable across Jammu and Kashmir.

The initiative is designed to extend specialised joint care to patients suffering from debilitating knee and hip conditions that restrict movement, cause persistent pain and erode quality of life. A team of experienced orthopaedic specialists at the hospital will perform the surgeries, backed by comprehensive clinical care and hospital facilities.

Beneficiaries who need joint replacement but may face financial constraints in accessing advanced surgical treatment are expected to gain the most. The cost of such procedures can be a serious barrier for many families, and a scheme-backed option widens the pool of patients who can consider surgery. Patients can contact the hospital to learn about their eligibility, the procedures available and their treatment options.

Dr Murtuza Habib, Facility Director, PARAS Health Srinagar, said the initiative reflects the hospital’s commitment to making quality healthcare accessible to more people across the region. “Joint pain and mobility-related problems can significantly affect a person’s independence, confidence and everyday life,” he said, adding that the aim is to help eligible patients access expert orthopaedic care without the burden of prohibitive treatment costs, with a focus on patient safety, recovery and improved quality of life.

Seema Vig, Senior Vice President and Regional Director, PARAS Health, said accessible healthcare remains central to the organisation’s approach to patient care. “Access to quality healthcare should not be limited by financial circumstances,” she said, noting that extending joint replacement services under Ayushman Bharat is meant to help eligible patients regain mobility and live healthier, more independent lives. She added that the group remains committed to strengthening specialised services and bringing advanced treatment closer to the communities it serves.

Joint replacement surgery is commonly recommended for patients with severe joint damage, advanced arthritis and other conditions that significantly compromise movement and daily functioning. Depending on individual clinical assessment, eligible patients may be considered for knee or hip replacement, alongside other appropriate orthopaedic interventions. The hospital said its wider orthopaedic services also include shoulder and other joint care, with treatment plans tailored to each patient’s medical needs and clinical suitability.

PARAS Health Srinagar has encouraged patients and their families to consult its orthopaedic team to understand the available options and the eligibility requirements under the government scheme. Coverage and approval for procedures will remain subject to applicable Ayushman Bharat guidelines and scheme conditions. For appointments and enquiries, patients can call 7835084930 or 7835084920.
