The Annual Regular Class 10 examinations of the Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) were conducted peacefully across the Kashmir Valley on Monday, with 72,232 students appearing at 687 examination centres. No untoward incident or disturbance was reported from any centre in the Valley, officials said, marking a smooth start to an assessment that is among the most consequential in a young student’s academic life.

The examinations also commenced in the winter-zone areas of the Jammu Division. Taken together, around 97,500 students appeared at 1,003 centres spread across the Kashmir Division and the winter-zone areas of Jammu, reflecting the scale of the logistical exercise that the Board undertakes each year.

Director of School Education Kashmir Naseer Ahmad Wani said the examinations were proceeding in an orderly manner, with adequate arrangements in place to ensure the convenience and welfare of students. Officials who inspected examination centres reported that facilities such as drinking water, proper sanitation and comfortable seating had been ensured for candidates. Security arrangements were also put in place to maintain law and order and provide a safe environment for those sitting the papers.

The conduct of board examinations in the Kashmir Valley depends on careful coordination among the education administration, the police, transport providers and the staff of the centres themselves. A peaceful first day, therefore, is a reassuring sign for parents and students who prepare for months ahead of the Class 10 papers. For many families, the result of this examination shapes the choice of stream and the direction of further study, which is why a calm and well-managed environment carries such importance.

The winter-zone schedule is a distinctive feature of the academic calendar in the Union Territory, where harsh weather in certain regions leads to a different session pattern from the rest of the country. Holding the examinations for these areas in the autumn allows students there to complete the assessment cycle on time without the disruption that heavy snowfall can bring later in the year.

Authorities also highlighted the welfare measures available to students in government educational institutions, including free uniforms, meals, tuition and scholarships. Parents were encouraged to consider government schools for their children’s education, with officials pointing to the range of support that these institutions provide to learners from all backgrounds. As the examinations continue over the coming days, attention will remain on keeping the process orderly, fair and stress-free for every candidate.
