The Save Youth Save Future Foundation (SYSF Foundation), through its students’ wing NEXTGEN, organised an interactive session between students and the district administration at Government Degree College, Baramulla, aimed at encouraging youth participation and promoting dialogue on issues that affect young people.

Deputy Commissioner Baramulla Syed Fakhruddin Hamid attended the programme as the chief guest. Also present were SYSF Foundation Chairman Wajahat Farooq Bhat, college Principal Prof. (Dr.) Tasleema Bano, Staff Secretary Prof. Tariq Ahmad Chalkoo, faculty members and a large gathering of students.

The session gave students an opportunity to share their views, raise concerns and offer suggestions on education, youth opportunities and the overall development of Baramulla district. Hamid listened to the concerns and responded to queries from the students, assuring them that their suggestions would be considered for implementation. He also assured the participants of the administration’s assistance and support wherever required.

Speaking on the occasion, Wajahat Farooq Bhat said meaningful youth empowerment requires opportunities for students to engage directly with decision-makers and contribute to discussions on matters that shape their communities. He stressed the need to move beyond symbolic participation and ensure that young people have a genuine voice in shaping their future. Bhat thanked the Deputy Commissioner for interacting directly with students and listening to their suggestions, and acknowledged the cooperation of the college principal, the faculty and the administration in organising the programme.

The event was coordinated by NEXTGEN under the leadership of its President Aadil Shafi Lone and Vice President Athar Khan.

Direct interaction between students and district officials is a format that is gaining ground across Jammu and Kashmir, where young people make up a significant share of the population and where questions of education, skills and employment weigh heavily on families. When students are able to put their concerns before the officers who administer a district, the exchange often brings practical issues to light that may not reach decision-makers through formal channels. For the administration, such sessions offer a chance to understand the aspirations of a generation that will shape the district’s future.

Through the initiative, the SYSF Foundation reiterated its commitment to youth empowerment, civic engagement and constructive dialogue between young people and public institutions. Organisers expressed hope that such engagements would continue and lead to concrete outcomes for students in Baramulla and beyond.
