Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday chaired a comprehensive review meeting to assess the developmental progress, winter preparedness and public service delivery in Anantnag district. He directed the concerned departments to accelerate ongoing projects and ensure the timely resolution of public grievances.

The meeting reviewed the functioning and progress of key sectors, including health, education, roads and infrastructure, youth empowerment, food and civil supplies, power and rural development.

The Chief Minister issued specific, time-bound directions to expedite the development of industrial estates, streamline the disbursement of social welfare assistance, strengthen LPG buffer stocks ahead of winter and improve both physical and financial progress under key government schemes, including the Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI).

Emphasising youth empowerment and entrepreneurship, he directed banks to streamline disbursements under Mission YUVA, so that aspiring young entrepreneurs can establish and expand their enterprises without avoidable delay. He stressed the need for coordinated efforts among departments to ensure efficient implementation of development programmes, improved delivery of essential services and effective redressal of public grievances.

Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary, Minister for Jal Shakti Javed Ahmad Rana, Minister for Agriculture Production Javed Ahmad Dar, Minister for Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Satish Sharma, Advisor to the Chief Minister Nasir Aslam Wani, MLAs from Anantnag district and senior officers attended the meeting.

District-level reviews of this kind are used by the government to check how projects are moving on the ground and to identify bottlenecks that may not be visible from the capital. Anantnag, a major district of south Kashmir, depends on a mix of agriculture, horticulture, tourism and small industry, and its residents look to the administration for dependable roads, power and essential supplies, particularly as the cold season approaches.

The direction on LPG buffer stocks is especially relevant for winter, when heavy snowfall can disrupt road links and delay the movement of cooking gas cylinders and other essentials. Having adequate stocks in advance helps households avoid shortages when supply lines are cut. Similarly, the focus on industrial estates is aimed at creating space and facilities for enterprises that can generate local employment.

The emphasis on Mission YUVA reflects the government’s attention to self-employment among young people, for whom access to bank finance is often the main hurdle in starting a business. Asking banks to simplify disbursement is meant to ensure that sanctioned loans reach beneficiaries on time.

The Chief Minister’s time-bound directions indicate that departments will be expected to report progress in the coming weeks, with the aim of ensuring that the benefits of schemes and services reach people in Anantnag before winter sets in.
