As part of the ongoing Police Flag Day Week, Jammu and Kashmir Police in Awantipora organised an exhibition highlighting the valour, sacrifices and contributions of police martyrs at the District Police Lines (DPL) Awantipora.
The exhibition saw the participation of family members of police martyrs and respected citizens from different areas of Police District Awantipora. On the occasion, floral tributes were paid to the martyrs in recognition of their supreme sacrifices in the line of duty for the nation.
During the exhibition, videos and stories depicting the bravery, courage and supreme sacrifices of police martyrs were showcased, reminding participants of the dedication and commitment of those who gave their lives to safeguard the nation.
At the outset, participants were introduced to the concept and functioning of the Savera Cell, with an emphasis on strengthening the bond between the police and the families of martyrs. Various welfare schemes and initiatives aimed at supporting the families of police martyrs were also discussed with those present.
The exhibition served as a tribute to the sacrifices of police martyrs and reaffirmed the commitment of J&K Police to honouring their legacy and ensuring the welfare of their families.
Police Flag Day Week is observed around Police Commemoration Day on October 21, when the country remembers police personnel who laid down their lives in the line of duty. The week typically includes memorial events, public outreach and programmes that connect the police with citizens and with the families of the fallen. In Jammu and Kashmir, where police personnel have faced significant risks over the decades, such observances carry a special emotional resonance for many families.
By inviting the relatives of martyrs to take part, the Awantipora exhibition gave them a place of honour and an opportunity to see their loved ones remembered publicly. The showcasing of videos and personal stories also helps younger citizens understand the human cost of maintaining law and order and the courage that such service demands.
The discussion on the Savera Cell, which was presented as a means of strengthening the relationship between the force and martyrs’ families, underlines the importance of continuing support long after the ceremonies end. Welfare schemes, whether they relate to education, financial assistance or other needs, are central to ensuring that families are not left to face their loss alone.
Programmes like this one are intended to keep alive the memory of the martyrs and to reassure their families that the force and the community stand beside them.
