Beerwah: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah inaugurated development works worth approximately ₹25 crore and laid foundation stones for five projects in Beerwah constituency of central Kashmir’s Budgam district on Friday, reaffirming his focus on local infrastructure and public demands.
During his visit, Omar recalled the support he received from Beerwah voters in the 2014 Assembly elections and said he remained committed to working for the constituency’s development. He stressed that pending projects needed to be completed and local concerns addressed.
Among the important works was the reconstruction of a bridge over Nallah Sukhnaat, which had long been demanded by residents. The Chief Minister said the bridge had been handed over to the public and acknowledged the officials who helped expedite the work.
The government has also initiated riverfront beautification, including a walking track and decks along the banks. Additionally, ₹4 crore has been earmarked for constructing and improving lanes and drains across the constituency.
Addressing electricity-related concerns, Omar said the foundation stone for a new receiving station had been laid and that the facility was expected to become operational within four to five months. He also announced a transformer repair workshop to reduce the difficulties residents face during winter when damaged transformers must be transported elsewhere.
Responding to demands for a stadium, he said a suitable site would be identified for the Sports Department. He also acknowledged concerns that diverting highway traffic away from Beerwah’s centre could affect local businesses, adding that the matter had been raised with highway authorities.
The Chief Minister said development works and local infrastructure concerns would remain priorities during his engagement with the constituency.
