Srinagar: Class 10 students who appeared in the Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education’s (JKBOSE) Urdu annual regular examination on October 22 have demanded five grace marks, alleging that two questions contained grammatical errors that affected their ability to answer them correctly.
The students have urged the Board to review the disputed questions and provide a fair remedy to all affected candidates. They argue that the alleged flaws created confusion during the examination and consumed valuable time as students attempted to understand the wording and available options.
The first objection concerns Question 8, which carried four marks and tested sentence structure and grammatical analysis. According to the students, the internal choice presented two verbal sentences instead of offering the intended distinction between a nominal sentence and a verbal sentence.
They cited the examples “Ladki ne khoobsurat gaana gaaya” and “Woh kitaab likh raha hai”, arguing that both sentences belong to the verbal category. On this basis, they have sought four grace marks for the question.
Their second objection concerns a one-mark multiple-choice question based on the sentence “Rashid bohut ghareeb hai”. Students claim that the correct grammatical option referring to the subject or doer was missing from the choices provided.
They have therefore requested one additional grace mark for this question, bringing their total demand to five marks.
The students have called on JKBOSE to obtain an expert assessment of the disputed questions and clarify how the alleged discrepancies will be addressed during evaluation.
The concerns remain allegations raised by students. A formal examination of the paper by the Board would be necessary to establish whether the questions contained errors and what corrective action, if any, is warranted.
