Srinagar: The Awami Itihaad Party (AIP) has urged the Jammu and Kashmir government to introduce a time-bound policy for regularising eligible daily wagers, contractual employees, consolidated-pay workers and other temporary staff, citing prolonged uncertainty over their employment and retirement prospects.
AIP Chief Spokesperson Inam Un Nabi said thousands of workers and their families continued to face uncertainty despite years of service in government departments. He called for a legally sustainable framework that establishes clear eligibility criteria and a transparent process for considering regularisation claims.
The demand comes amid reports that 1,00,501 workers across various categories have been registered in Jammu and Kashmir. The earlier regularisation rules were repealed in October 2023, while a government committee was constituted in March 2025 to examine the matter. A comprehensive replacement framework, according to the reported position, remains awaited.
Inam argued that government departments depend on these employees to deliver essential public services, making it necessary to address their future through a clear administrative decision.
He called for a defined implementation timeline, fair consideration of pending cases and previous departmental recommendations, and compliance with binding judicial orders. He also sought priority consideration for eligible employees approaching retirement.
The AIP spokesperson said any policy must balance the legitimate concerns of long-serving workers with applicable recruitment rules and constitutional requirements.
He maintained that employees who have devoted decades to public service deserve clarity about their employment prospects and a fair opportunity to seek regularisation under the relevant rules.
The party has called on the government to end the prolonged uncertainty by establishing a transparent, legally compliant mechanism that explains eligibility requirements, addresses pending claims and provides a clear path forward for affected workers.
