Srinagar: Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir Dr Moulvi Mohammad Umar Farooq has called on people to reflect their faith through their character, conduct and treatment of others, stressing that religious commitment must extend beyond observances and declarations into everyday life.
Addressing the Friday congregation on October 23, 2026, Mirwaiz continued his discourse on Imaan, or faith, drawing attention to the message of Surah Al-Asr. He said the Quranic chapter highlights the importance of time, righteous deeds, truth and patience as essential elements of a meaningful life.
He observed that people often devote considerable attention to wealth, status and worldly achievements while overlooking the moral responsibilities that shape their lives. According to Mirwaiz, material success cannot compensate for the absence of honesty, compassion, justice and accountability.
He emphasised that respecting the rights of others, dealing honestly with people and showing compassion towards vulnerable members of society are fundamental expressions of faith. He added that those holding public office must exercise authority responsibly, treating it as a trust and upholding fairness and human dignity.
Mirwaiz also expressed concern about growing materialism, excessive social media use and the pressures confronting younger generations. He cautioned that unproductive digital activities could consume valuable time that might otherwise be devoted to education, family relationships and personal development.
Calling for stronger moral guidance, he urged parents, teachers and religious institutions to encourage meaningful engagement with young people.
He said society’s religious values should translate into personal responsibility, social compassion and a collective commitment to justice. Mirwaiz concluded by urging people to assess their lives through their actions and treatment of others, rather than through declarations of belief alone.
