Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir Dr Moulvi Mohammad Umar Farooq on Tuesday expressed deep grief and sorrow over the demise of Mohammad Anwar Rather, elder brother of noted journalist and CNS Media head Abdul Rashid Rahi, who hailed from Chandrigam in Tral.

Paying heartfelt tributes to the deceased, the Mirwaiz conveyed his sincere condolences and sympathies to Rahi and the entire bereaved family. He expressed solidarity with them in this hour of grief, a gesture that carries meaning within a society where community support during bereavement remains a deeply valued tradition. Rahi is a well-known name in Kashmir’s media circles, and the loss of an elder sibling is felt keenly by those who know him in the journalistic fraternity as well.

In a separate message issued the same day, the Mirwaiz also voiced profound sorrow over the passing of Fatima Ali Mir, wife of the late Ali Mohammad Mir and a resident of Khawaja Bazar in Srinagar. The deceased was an elderly woman and a long-standing devotee closely associated with the Mirwaiz family over the years. Recalling the family’s enduring association with her, the Mirwaiz conveyed his heartfelt condolences to her bereaved family and shared in their loss.

The Mirwaiz prayed to Almighty Allah to grant Jannat-ul-Firdous to both departed souls, to forgive their shortcomings and to elevate their ranks in the Hereafter. He also prayed that the bereaved families be granted Sabr-e-Jameel, the beautiful patience with which Muslims are taught to bear loss.

Condolence messages of this kind form a regular part of the public life of Kashmir’s religious and social leadership. They reflect the bonds that tie communities, families and institutions together, and they offer comfort at moments when families are least able to bear their burden alone. In the old city of Srinagar, where Khawaja Bazar is located, the Mirwaiz family has long enjoyed deep connections with households that have followed its religious guidance across generations, and the loss of a lifelong devotee is felt as a personal bereavement within that wider circle.

Messages of condolence from respected religious leaders also help families feel that their grief is shared by the wider community. Friends, relatives, colleagues and well-wishers have been visiting the homes of the deceased in Tral and Srinagar to offer prayers and sympathy, in keeping with custom. Onlykashmir.in joins in expressing condolences to both families and prays that the departed souls are granted peace and that the bereaved find strength to endure this loss.
