Indian Railways has announced 1,265 vacancies for the post of Station Master across various Railway Recruitment Boards and zones, opening a significant employment avenue for graduate candidates across the country, including aspirants in Jammu and Kashmir.
The Railways Ministry said the announcement follows an important recruitment decision by the Railway Board, which has prescribed that Station Master recruitment will be notified separately from 2026 onwards. Under the arrangement, the post gets its own dedicated recruitment process, and candidates receive a specific notification that sets out eligibility requirements, examination procedures and the distribution of vacancies. Earlier, candidates seeking such posts often had to navigate combined notifications that covered several categories at once, so a stand-alone notice is expected to bring greater clarity.
The online application window will remain open until the 25th of next month. Candidates have been advised to go through the detailed eligibility conditions, vacancy distribution and application instructions carefully before submitting their forms. Applicants are generally well served by checking educational qualifications, age limits and the zone-wise break-up of posts in the notification, since errors in a submitted form can cost a candidate a place in the selection process.
The Station Master is a key operational role in the railway network. Station Masters are responsible for the safe and orderly movement of trains at stations under their charge, and they coordinate with train controllers, signalling staff and other personnel to keep traffic running smoothly. The position carries substantial responsibility and is regarded as one of the more sought-after posts by graduates seeking a career in the national transporter.
For young job seekers in Kashmir, where public sector vacancies are keenly pursued and unemployment remains a concern, the notification is likely to draw considerable interest. The Kashmir rail link has widened the region’s connection with the national network, and many aspirants view railway jobs as a stable path into public service.
The Ministry said the recruitment reflects Indian Railways’ continued efforts to provide career opportunities to eligible candidates while strengthening its operational workforce. By filling positions in a transparent and dedicated process, the Railways aims to ensure that stations across zones are adequately staffed for the demands of a network that carries millions of passengers every day. Interested candidates should apply through the official recruitment board websites before the deadline and avoid last-minute submissions.
