Awami Itihaad Party (AIP) Chief Spokesperson Inam Un Nabi on Monday mounted a sharp attack on PDP President Mehbooba Mufti and National Conference President Dr Farooq Abdullah, accusing both leaders of exploiting Kashmir’s political and emotional sentiments through double standards, opportunistic alliances and selective outrage.
Inam said Mehbooba Mufti’s criticism of Farooq Abdullah, barely 24 hours after she shared a stage with him in Delhi, exposed the hypocrisy of her politics. “If Farooq Abdullah is so objectionable to Mehbooba Mufti, why was she sharing the stage with him yesterday? Why the silence in Delhi and the sudden outrage in Kashmir? This is not political conviction; it is political convenience. Kashmiris are not fools who can be fed one narrative in Delhi and another in Srinagar,” he said.
On electoral integrity, the AIP spokesperson questioned what he described as the National Conference’s contradictory stance. He said the party refuses to acknowledge allegations of vote theft in Jammu and Kashmir, even as its president shared a platform with the Congress in Delhi and took part in the “Vote Chori” campaign that the NC, in his words, refuses to endorse at home.
Responding to Mehbooba Mufti’s references to the suffering caused by shutdowns and restrictions, Inam said both the NC and the PDP must answer for their own records in government. “Farooq Abdullah, Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti have all been part of governments under which Kashmiris endured curfews, shutdowns, restrictions and internet blockades. Those who have presided over such restrictions cannot suddenly pose as the exclusive custodians of people’s pain. Stop shedding crocodile tears and start answering for your own record,” he said.
Commenting on the PDP rally held at Municipal Park in Srinagar, he said the venue “should be washed and cleansed of the political filth of hypocrisy, deceit and theatrics displayed there today.” He added that Kashmir’s public spaces should not become platforms for manufactured outrage, and that former companions could not turn into present adversaries simply to keep their politics alive.
The remarks add to the sharpening rhetoric among Kashmir’s political formations. The NC and the PDP have long been the Valley’s principal mainstream parties, while the AIP, led by Baramulla MP Er Rashid, has sought to position itself as an alternative to both. Inam’s statement is consistent with that effort, framing the two established parties as part of the same political establishment.
Urging the public to reject what he called the politics of both traditional parties, Inam said Kashmiris should hold their leadership accountable. “Enough of this political circus. Kashmiris have suffered enough at the hands of leaders who remember people’s pain only when they need political mileage. Their alliances, speeches and accusations may change, but their records cannot be erased. The people must judge them by their deeds, not their dramatic speeches,” he said.
