The Democratic Party has won a landslide victory in the US midterm elections, winning a majority in both houses of Congress, the Senate and the House of Representatives, dealing a major political blow to President Donald Trump’s Republican Party.

All 435 seats in the House of Representatives and 35 seats in the Senate were up for election in the November 3 elections, while governors were also elected in 36 states.

According to Reuters, Democrats also won in the traditionally Republican-held states of Texas, South Carolina, Ohio and Kansas. The election results are being linked to public reactions to the Trump administration’s policies, inflation and the Iran war.

After these results, Democrats will have more political power in Congress in the process of making laws, overseeing government decisions and approving presidential nominations.

Policy will not change, says Khamenei

Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has warned the United States not to expect Washington’s policy towards Tehran to change based on the results of the midterm elections.

In his statement on Wednesday, he said that those who expect a change in policy towards Iran after the US elections are mistaken. His statement came after US President Donald Trump’s party suffered an electoral setback.

Mojtaba Khamenei warned that any new aggression from the US would be met with a much harsher response than before. He described Iran’s actions against US military bases in the region and actions related to the Strait of Hormuz as part of a broader struggle against US hegemony.

Democratic leader Amy Berra won her eighth term in the House of Representatives by defeating Republican candidate Rob Tucker from California’s 3rd Congressional District. Rohan Khanna and Pramila Jayapal also retained their seats.

On the other hand, Republican candidate and Indian-origin leader Vivek Ramaswamy was defeated by Democratic candidate Amy Acton in the Ohio gubernatorial election. Republican candidate Saratha Komatireddy also admitted defeat in the election for New York Attorney General.
