Three youths drowned in the Jhelum River in Hajin area of north Kashmir on Friday, triggering a wave of grief in the area.
According to reports, the youths were washing tent equipment on the banks of the Jhelum River in Chak Chandergir area when they suddenly slipped and were swept away by the fast-flowing water. Locals and volunteers launched an immediate rescue operation during which two bodies were recovered while the third body was later recovered after a search.
The deceased have been identified as Adil Ahmed Dar (18), Sameer Ahmed Dar (22) and Sohail Ahmed Dar (22), residents of Chandergir Hajin.
After the incident, there was an atmosphere of mourning in the entire area and hundreds of people attended the funeral prayers of the three youths.
LG Manoj Sinha, CM Omar Abdullah, MLAs Nizamuddin Butt, Hilal Akbar Lone expressed deep grief over the incident and condoled with the affected families.
Meanwhile, Mirwaiz Kashmir Dr. Maulvi Muhammad Umar Farooq said on social media platform X that I express my deep sorrow and grief over the tragic drowning of three young boys in the Jhelum River in Hajin, Bandipora.
In this hour of grief and pain, I offer my heartfelt condolences and sympathy to the bereaved families.
