Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University is facing growing criticism over delayed salaries, stalled promotions, declining academic activity, and administrative stagnation.

Sources said faculty members and staff have not received salaries for the past four months, causing financial distress and affecting morale on campus.

Teachers also alleged that promotions and career progression have remained pending, while favoritism and internal lobbying have weakened institutional functioning.

Faculty and students claimed that research activities, academic conferences, innovation programmes, and institutional collaborations have sharply declined in recent years.

“There is hardly any visible academic environment left. Universities thrive on intellectual activity, but that culture is weakening,” a senior academic source told Kashmir News Trust.

Concerns have also been raised over the alleged non utilization of the university’s CAPEX budget, with sources claiming that development funds remain largely unused despite urgent infrastructural needs.

Questions are also being raised over the current administrative arrangement after an Additional Deputy Commissioner was given charge as Registrar. Critics alleged the setup has failed to provide stable academic and administrative leadership.

Established to strengthen higher education in the Pir Panjal region, BGSBU was once seen as a transformative institution for Rajouri and Poonch districts. Educationists now say urgent intervention is needed to revive the university.

Faculty members have appealed to the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir and the Education Minister to address pending salaries, ensure transparent promotions, revive academic activity, utilise development funds, and appoint full time leadership.
