Srinagar: Delhi Public School Srinagar celebrated its 23rd Founders’ Day on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at the Indoor Stadium, paying tribute to its visionary founder, Durga Prasad Dhar, while commemorating the institution’s journey as a centre of educational excellence in the region. The event blended reverence for the school’s legacy with vibrant displays of student talent and future aspirations.
The ceremony began with a traditional Entry Izband welcome and a soulful morning prayer, followed by reflections on the life and vision of late Mr. D.P. Dhar. Speakers described the institution as a heritage of excellence and persistence, while expressing gratitude to Vijay Dhar and Kiran Dhar for creating a platform that empowers Kashmiri youth.
Students from Classes 11 and 12 enthralled the audience with a Music Mashup performance led by Aisha and her group. This was followed by a Hula Hoop dance presented by students of the Learning Resource Centre (LRC), reflecting the school’s commitment to inclusive education and support for specially abled students.
Cultural performances included “Habba Khatoon” by Grade 4 students and a traditional Kashmiri dance by Grade 8 students, celebrating the region’s rich heritage.
The event also recognised achievements in academics and sports. Students Tarahum Sadiya and Mehran Zargar were felicitated for receiving the Kiran Dhar Sports Scholarship. Students who scored above 95% in the CBSE Grade X Examinations 2025–2026 were honoured for academic excellence. Two visually impaired students of the LRC, Zainab Bilal and Rafees Rafiq, were also felicitated for passing the CBSE Grade X Examination with distinction. In addition, staff members who have completed twenty years of dedicated service were honoured for their contribution to the institution.
Addressing the gathering, Chairman Vijay Dhar said that today’s students possess the resources and opportunities to lead confidently and shape a better future. He reaffirmed the school’s commitment to providing a world class environment where young minds can realise their full potential.
Principal Shafaq Afshan said Founders’ Day reflects the school’s belief that education must go beyond textbooks to nurture inquiry, resilience, empathy, and service. She added that the institution remains committed to empowering students to pursue their dreams with confidence.
The celebrations concluded with a vote of thanks followed by an interactive tea gathering, allowing guests and staff to engage with the school community and its evolving legacy.
