The Karnataka government on Wednesday withdrew the hijab ban order issued in 2022, which was implemented by the previous BJP government.
The new order allows “limited traditional and religious dress and symbols” in educational institutions, but the uniform rules will remain the same as before.
Under the decision, hijab, headscarves, tattoos, sacred threads worn under Shiva Dharma, rudraksha and other religious symbols are allowed in limited quantities.
The new order also makes it clear that it will be necessary to maintain discipline, security, identity and an effective learning environment in educational institutions.
