As part of the government’s austerity drive, Prime Minister Narendra Modi travelled to Delhi on Wednesday with a convoy of just two vehicles for a cabinet meeting. Unlike the usual large and long convoys of VIPs, this time a limited number of vehicles were used, which is being described as a symbol of fuel economy and simplicity.

According to reports, only essential vehicles were included for Modi’s security, while non-essential vehicles were reduced. The government is currently preparing new guidelines to reduce travel expenses and fuel consumption of various ministries, government agencies and VIPs.
According to sources, several states have also been instructed to avoid unnecessary expenses in official functions and convoys. Especially in those states, where fuel consumption and government expenditure have increased, emphasis is being placed on intensifying the austerity drive.

Meanwhile, Home Minister Amit Shah has also significantly reduced the size of his official convoy. It is being said that the number of vehicles in his convoy has been reduced by more than 50 percent. Political circles believe that this move may lead to a trend of shorter convoys among other leaders and ministers.

According to experts, such measures will not only help in saving fuel but will also send a message to the public that the government is demonstrating simplicity and responsibility in difficult economic conditions.
