The 3rd India-Nordic Summit took place in Oslo today, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi joining the heads of government of all five Nordic nations — Norway, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, and Sweden. The leaders declared they are meeting at a time of global geopolitical flux and rapid technological transformation, and agreed to elevate the India-Nordic relationship to a trusted Green Technology and Innovation Strategic Partnership.

Oslo emerged as the centrepiece of India’s expanding global outreach as Modi held a rapid-fire series of high-stakes bilateral meetings with all five Nordic prime ministers ahead of the summit. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, and Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri accompanied the delegation. The summit is the fourth stop on Modi’s ambitious five-nation tour covering the UAE, Netherlands, Sweden, Norway, and Italy — a blitz of diplomacy timed to secure energy partnerships, supply chain resilience, and strategic technology ties amid global economic instability.

The MEA said the summit was designed to impart a more strategic dimension to India’s relationship with the Nordic countries, especially in technology and innovation, green transition and renewable energy, the blue economy, defence, space, and the Arctic. Ahead of the main summit, Modi attended the India-Norway Business and Research Summit, where over 250 participants from Indian and Norwegian business and research communities gathered, with several business agreements signed between the two countries.

Norway’s Government Pension Fund holds investments worth nearly USD 28 billion in Indian capital markets — a financial footprint that underscores just how consequential the Nordic relationship already is for India. The Oslo summit signals New Delhi’s intent to make that partnership far deeper and more strategic going forward.
