Tuesday, 09 June 2026 –

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha is scheduled to hold a high-level review meeting in Srinagar on Tuesday to assess the state of preparedness for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra, one of the largest annual Hindu pilgrimages in India. The review signals that the administration is entering the final phase of pre-Yatra logistics and security planning.

The Amarnath Yatra typically begins in late June or early July and draws hundreds of thousands of pilgrims to the cave shrine located at approximately 3,888 metres above sea level in the Himalayan ranges of Anantnag district. The pilgrimage has historically been one of the most security-intensive events in J&K’s calendar — a target for militant attacks in past decades — and its smooth conduct is considered both a religious and political priority for the administration.

This year’s review takes on additional significance given the heightened security environment in J&K following the Pahalgam attack in April 2026. The administration has indicated it intends to deploy comprehensive security arrangements to protect pilgrims and ensure an uninterrupted yatra. The LG’s direct involvement in the review reflects how seriously the administration is approaching preparations, and details of the security architecture and registration numbers are expected to be discussed at the meeting.
