Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday addressed the Republic Summit 2026 in New Delhi, delivering a sweeping address on the theme “Great Power India: Nation First” in which he outlined India’s civilisational identity, its long-term strategic vision, and its ongoing fight against internal security threats including Maoism and terrorism.

Speaking to a distinguished gathering at the summit, Prime Minister Modi painted a picture of India as a civilisation unlike any other, one whose collective consciousness carries within it the memory and wisdom of countless generations. He asserted that India does not react impulsively to temporary events or immediate pressures, but instead draws from a deep reservoir of historical experience, having witnessed both extraordinary progress and devastating destruction across the centuries.

“We are a nation whose collective consciousness carries the memory of ages,” the Prime Minister said, adding that this accumulated wisdom and experience of generations was precisely what guided India’s decisions today. He expressed his conviction that the actions India is taking now will define and shape the trajectory of the next thousand years, a statement he made with a sense of solemn responsibility.

The Prime Minister also addressed the challenge of internal security with directness and candour. He made clear that issues such as Maoism and left-wing extremism, as well as the persistent threat of terrorism, cannot be reduced to mere television headlines or reduced to subjects of political debate. Overcoming such entrenched challenges, he said, demands sustained, consistent, and resolute effort over a long period rather than episodic responses to crises.

Modi’s address at the Republic Summit comes at a moment when India’s stature on the world stage is rising considerably, with the country increasingly asserting its role as a leading voice in multilateral forums, a major economic power, and a country with clearly articulated strategic interests. The “Nation First” theme of the summit underscored a broader national conversation about India’s self-reliance, civilisational pride, and the importance of placing the country’s long-term interests above transient political considerations.

The Republic Summit, hosted by Republic Media Network, brings together political leaders, strategists, diplomats, and thinkers to deliberate on issues of national and international significance. Prime Minister Modi’s participation and his wide-ranging address made this year’s edition a landmark occasion, with his remarks on India’s millennial vision certain to generate considerable commentary in policy and strategic circles.
