Srinagar: The third edition of the Chinar Book Festival will be held in Srinagar from July 18 to July 26, bringing together nearly 200 publishers, over 250 book stalls, and around 800 participants, including acclaimed writers, poets, artists, scholars and intellectuals from across the country.
Addressing a press conference in Srinagar, NBT Director Major Yuvraj Malik said the festival has now evolved into a calendar event, reflecting its growing stature as one of the country’s significant literary and cultural gatherings.
He said the festival aims to torch a vibrant reading culture while providing an inclusive platform for literary dialogue, cultural exchange and intellectual engagement.
The festival will feature books in multiple languages and host a wide array of literary and cultural programmes.
NCPUL Director Shamas Iqbal announced that several distinguished poets have been invited to participate in a grand Mushaira, adding a rich poetic dimension to the event.
The organisers also underscored that special emphasis has been placed on children’s activities, with dedicated programmes designed to cultivate reading habits and creative expression among young minds.
The press conference was also addressed by Dr. Amit Wanchoo, Chief Convenor of the festival. Among those present were officials from the Press Information Bureau, led by Majid Pandit, along with Ms. Shobha Kapoor and Dr. Liaquat Raza from the National Book Trust (NBT).
The organisers said the festival will remain open to the public free of charge throughout its nine day run.

Earlier in the day, a Shikara Rally was flagged off by Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Akshay Labroo, marking the ceremonial commencement of the festival celebrations.
The rally served as a symbolic prelude to the literary extravaganza, highlighting Kashmir’s unique cultural heritage and the enduring spirit of its literary traditions.
