New Delhi, August 11: The Income Tax Department has collected more than ₹8.11 lakh crore in net direct taxes during the current financial year 2026-27 up to August 10, registering a growth of 23.09 per cent compared with the corresponding period of 2025-26.

The latest figures indicate a strong increase in direct tax collections and reflect continued growth in revenue mobilisation during the ongoing financial year.

According to the Income Tax Department, the net direct tax collection of over ₹8.11 lakh crore includes more than ₹2.70 lakh crore collected as corporate tax and over ₹5.07 lakh crore under non-corporate tax.

The department has also issued refunds amounting to more than ₹1.43 lakh crore during the period. After accounting for refunds, the net collection stood at over ₹8.11 lakh crore.

The gross direct tax collection has also recorded significant growth, crossing ₹9.54 lakh crore and registering an increase of more than 19 per cent compared with the corresponding period of the previous financial year.

The latest collection figures come amid the government’s continued efforts to strengthen tax compliance, improve collection mechanisms and widen the tax base. The performance of direct tax revenues remains an important indicator of economic activity and government revenue mobilisation.

The higher collection during the first part of the financial year provides an early indication of sustained revenue growth, although tax collections typically vary through the year depending on the timing of advance tax payments, assessments, refunds and other statutory processes.

The Income Tax Department has continued to focus on technology-driven tax administration and improved compliance mechanisms to facilitate more efficient collection and reduce tax-related complexities for taxpayers.

The government has also been emphasising greater transparency and voluntary compliance within the direct tax system. Rising collections, alongside refunds to taxpayers, form part of the broader tax administration framework aimed at improving revenue efficiency while ensuring taxpayer services.

With net direct tax collections already exceeding ₹8 lakh crore in the current financial year, the latest figures underline the pace of revenue mobilisation during the opening months of 2026-27.

The Income Tax Department is expected to continue monitoring collections and compliance throughout the financial year as it works towards meeting the government’s overall revenue objectives.
