The Jammu and Kashmir Government, led by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, has accorded administrative approval for two major parking infrastructure projects in Jammu city at a combined estimated cost of ₹49.34 crore, a move aimed at easing the persistent traffic congestion that has become a familiar challenge in the winter capital’s busier commercial areas.
The approved projects include a Parking-cum-Commercial Complex at Parade and a Multilevel Car Parking facility at SMGS Hospital, two locations that have long struggled with inadequate parking capacity relative to the volume of vehicular traffic and footfall they see on a daily basis. Officials said the projects are intended to provide modern, organised parking facilities at these key locations, easing congestion and improving overall traffic management in the city.
The new facilities are also expected to promote better utilisation of available urban space and support planned, sustainable urban development, an approach the government has increasingly emphasised as Jammu continues to grow and its existing infrastructure comes under greater strain. Officials added that the parking infrastructure will offer greater convenience to commuters, visitors and residents alike, particularly in areas that routinely witness heavy vehicular movement and acute parking pressure during peak hours.
