Jammu and Kashmir Police apprehended two persons and recovered 21 bottles of liquor during a routine naka check at Bondialgam Crossing in Anantnag district, as authorities continue efforts to curb the illegal transportation and possession of liquor across south Kashmir. A police party from Police Post Dialgam had established the checkpoint as part of standard preventive checking operations when the two individuals were intercepted and found in possession of the recovered bottles.
Officials said the liquor was seized in accordance with law following the search, and both individuals were taken into custody for further legal proceedings. A case has been registered at Police Station Anantnag under Section 48(a) of the Excise Act, and an investigation has been set into motion to establish the full circumstances of the seizure, including the source of the liquor and any wider distribution network the accused may have been connected to.
The Bondialgam Crossing naka forms part of a broader network of checkpoints that Anantnag police routinely operate as part of district-level enforcement against illegal liquor trade, a persistent law and order concern in several parts of the Kashmir Valley given restrictions on sale and transport that apply across much of the region. Excise Act violations of this kind typically carry penalties tied to the quantity seized and any evidence of onward commercial distribution, with investigators expected to examine whether the seized consignment was intended for local sale or further transport to other districts.
Police officials reiterated their broader commitment to enforcing excise and public order laws across Anantnag district, noting that naka checks of this nature serve a dual purpose, intercepting contraband while also acting as a deterrent against a range of other illegal activities that checkpoints routinely surface, from unlicensed transport to unauthorised movement of goods. The department has in recent months stepped up such checking drives across multiple districts as part of a wider enforcement push.
Investigators said further details, including the origin of the seized liquor and possible links to a larger supply chain, are expected to emerge as the case progresses. The two accused remain in police custody as the investigation continues, with officials indicating that additional legal action could follow depending on what the probe uncovers.
