Hyderabad/ In the wake of the global fuel crisis and the ongoing tensions in West Asia, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has once again appealed to the people and institutions of the country to promote “work from home”, online meetings and virtual conferences to reduce fuel consumption and reduce the growing pressure on the economy.
Addressing a public gathering after inaugurating development projects worth about Rs 9400 crore for Telangana in Hyderabad, the Prime Minister said that during the Corona era, the country had successfully adopted work from home, video conferencing and online working systems, and now the need of the hour is to reintroduce these methods in the national interest.
Narendra Modi said, “During Corona, we had developed many systems like work from home, online meetings and video conferencing and we had also become accustomed to them. Today, the situation demands that if we re-adopt these systems, it will be in the national interest.”
He appealed to the people to give priority to work from home wherever possible so that daily travel and fuel consumption can be reduced. He also stressed on avoiding unnecessary foreign travel for at least a year, postponing unnecessary purchases of gold, using metro and public transport, carpooling and adopting electric vehicles. He also appealed for encouraging local tourism and indigenous products.
The Prime Minister’s appeal has come at a time when tensions in West Asia, especially Iran, are affecting global oil supplies, which is likely to increase fuel prices and put pressure on the supply chain. He described these measures as a practical example of prioritizing national interest over personal convenience.
After the Prime Minister’s statement, a wide debate has started in social media and various sectors. Many technology experts and citizens welcomed the proposal, saying that it would reduce traffic pressure, reduce air pollution and reduce mental stress. However, due to strict attendance in offices by some private companies, there have been mixed reactions on the issue.
Currently, the government has not issued any mandatory directives regarding work from home, but experts believe that after the Prime Minister’s statement, many companies and institutions may consider voluntarily adopting a hybrid model. The government is constantly monitoring the global situation and fuel availability and further measures may be announced if necessary.
